DEVELOPMENT- INFRASTRUCTURE

The Growth of Handball in Greece - and by growth we mean the activities concerning small ages athletes - began long time ago, in 1980-81, with small coward steps, substantively by carrying out the one and only championship then, in the category of men's youth. The first champion in small ages in Greece was the club of "ASE DOUKAS".

During its course, the structure of Developmental activities and events changed, testing and always applying plans that would be an investment for the future, and mainly the base for the desirable results. The championships mupltiplied and they were extended in all ages categories of boys and girls, handball was incorporated and it was included in Schools physical education program and the Educational Seminars are carried out unfailingly annually. Thus nowadays we can deal with a well structured development plan and organization chart.

The H.H.F supports its developmental effort, with concrete planning and program which includes the sponsorship of young teams coaches, financial motives to the clubs for their participation in young ages championships, rewards for qualification in the final phases of Pan-Hellenic championships, as well as motives in order to create young teams infrastructure in the clubs. The responsibility of the development planning and implementation lays upon the HHF Development Committee.

The plan of the Committee is schematically presented as follows:

A. DEVELOPMENTAL PLANNING

1. Physical education schools
2. Primary schools tournaments
3. Athletic cores (Ministry of Sports)
4. Pre national teams / Pre national teams championship

B. OFFICIAL COMPETITIONS

1. Young ages championships men's -women's youth
Small boys -girls
Mini boys-girls
2. Finals

C. EDUCATION

1. Seminars for teachers in P.E
2. Coaches' seminars for young ages

PHYSICAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
For at least 12 years now handball has been included in the P.E schools of the Country's High schools. Nowadays its number goes up to 27 and dispersed as follows: Athens (3), Piraeus (2), Agrinio (2), ¢rta (1), Drama (1), Evros (1) Imathia (2), Thessaloniki (5), Corfu (2), Kilkis (2), Kozani (1), Pella (1), Pieria (1), Florina (1), Amyntaio (1), Chania (1). Athletic schools also participate in the Pan-Hellenic school championships, occasionally gaining
distinguished places in the finals and substantively they have become one more link in the development chain process.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS TOURNAMENTS
We could not organise and proceed in Handball's development, if we did not aim primarily and with particular interest to the spread of Handball in the young ages athletes through primary schools tournaments. It's a first free approach of our sport without certain playing rules and regulations, mainly based in free play. The Federation through its institutional bodies, contributes in the above mentioned tournaments all around the country having achieved an impressive increase of their number.

PROGRAM of ATHLETIC CORES
The departments of talents (cores) is a developmental program of the General Sport Secretariat (GSS) that concerns selection of talented boys and girls from Primary schools and the bodies of its materialization are the National Federations. This program exists since 1997 and includes 19 handball cores in many parts of Greece which are divided in 53 stages with children from 9-14 years old, making a total number of 800 athletes annually. This program is currently materialised in the following areas of Greece: Patra, Chania, Larissa, Volos, Lamia, Agrinio, Ioannina, Pirgos, Veria, Kastoria, Katerini, Kilkis, Athens, Piraeus, Alexandroupoli, Xanthi, Kozani.

Pre-National Teams Groups
Development planning aims in a common training system training of technical and tactical parameters, based in specific training structure, that is worked out by the Scientific collaborators of the HHF Development committee. This plan is practically expressed through the pre -national groups training in certain geographical parts of Greece, and includes, young handball players who have been especially selected for this cause, by qualified trainers. The pre-national teams championship takes place annually and its aim is to record the existing human sources, to check the program process and to seek whether is necessary to modify or improve the current training structure.
